23 November 2008, YADE 0.12.1, beta release
We are glad to announce the new release of YADE 0.12.1

There are several python interface improvements, code for plotting histogram of interaction directions, buttons for looking from different directions, new contact algorithm for facets. New python script for making videos, added also a TCP server on port 9000 with python console in it. But there is a new dependency on python-numpy package, which allows faster math in python. Added a script for parametric studies.

21 August 2008, YADE 0.12.0 beta release
We are glad to announce the new release of YADE 0.12.

It has major improvements: QT3 interface was refactored and python scripting console was added. It is now possible to control most of the simulation from within a python script. Clipping planes were added to graphical view and plotting of resultant curves is possible. New moment rotation law for DEM spheres was added and fully tested. The DEM triaxial test was improved in many aspects. Finally an STL entity importer was added making it possible to import shapes from e.g.: blender 3D modeling software.

12 August 2008, migrating lists to launchpad.net
Due to recurring technical problems with berlios.de mailing lists, we have started a launchpad migration. This process will well take several months to complete. The biggest inconvenience is that everyone will need to subscribe to mailing list on launchpad This cannot be done automatically, but to facilitate the process we will try to find some way of integrating both mailing lists with each other. Please do launchpad migration and stay tuned.

28 July 2008, 0.12rc1 (release candidate)
New features: Sega contributed facets and vertices with stl import, there is much improved python interface, qt gui underwent significant changes, player is almost completely remade, gl viewer has many enhancements, qglviewer is integrated into our tree, blocking individual DOFs on bodies is possible.

4 July 2007, beta release: "Yade Open DEM: small bugfixes in TriaxialTest", yade version 0.11.1
A followup release with some bugfixes in TriaxialTest and with compilation warnings on amd64 removed. Unless you are using TriaxialTest this release may be not important for you.

See Release NEWS for details.

24 June 2007, beta release: "Yade Open DEM: no more license problems", yade version 0.11.0
We are pleased to announce new yade release 0.11.0. Major improvements in the code and directory cleanup was done. Build system was changed from qmake to scons. Complete Lattice Geometrical Model as a result of PhD defence by one of yade authors. Several improvements in Discrete Element Method, capillary law and triaxial test.

Among smaller improvements it is possible now to select bodies by clicking them and moving around with mouse. Also interaction forces are drawn between bodies and can be seen as bars with strength related to bar thinckness.

As a result of voting on the mailing list we will call the Discrete Element Method component of Yade as Open DEM. Other components, such as Finite Element Method, Lattice Geometrical Model or Mass Spring may be called Open as well: Open FEM, Open LGM, Open MM.

See Release NEWS for details.

We want to move our homepage to wikia.com. With a wiki homepage it will be much easier than currently to allow the yade users community to contribute in our project. Please support the request for yade wiki. For more information see lastest post on yade-users.

In related news, the yade developer Janek Kozicki has defended last week his PhD thesis on lattice models, titled: "Application of discrete models to describe the fracture process in brittle materials". This allows to focus more on yade development and less on lattice related things. Expect a new yade release soon.

Some poeple have noticed that this site loads very slow. According to this bugreport on berlios site, the berlios servers are fighting a DDoS attack, which causes the slowdown. The berlios team suggests, that browsing the project page using https protocol should be faster. So here is the link to yade's homepage with https.

Thanks to Vaclav, our mailing list archives have been added to the gmane arhive. This provides much nicer browsing interface for the mailing lists, and allows searching of them too. Check them: yade-users and yade-dev.

The Mailing lists page has been updated.

29 November 2006
Vaclav Smilauer has joined our project, with PhD thesis titled: "Discrete concrete damage modeling", he will focus on Tetrahedra modelling of concrete, and also help with the yade framework itself. Great news: we have one more coder on the board.

The Authors page has been updated.

5 November 2006
New video was added, that demostrates the beginning of working on implementing working simulation with tetrahedrons. This example was prepared for Vaclav Smilauer, so that with it he will be able to add working tetrahedrons to yade. This video also demonstrates new yade's capability: interactive movement and rotation of bodies during the simulation. It also serves as a good documentation about extending yade.

The Videos page has been updated.

14 October 2006
Bruno Chareyre has joined our project, with PhD thesis defended 3 years ago: "DEM modelling of soil-inclusion structures - application to the anchoraging of geotextile at the top of slopes", he will focus on DEM modelling in geomechanics and micromechanics of granular materials. This is great news because with him on board we will have more tests available and more minds to think about the quality of our physical formulas.

The Authors page has been updated.

27 September 2006
Some benchmarks to compare yade's speed on AMD32 vs. AMD64 were done. The results are available on Benchmarks page.

8 September 2006
Andrzej Oszer has joined our project, his master thesis titled: "Concurrent implementation of calculations in numerical modelling". This is great news, because when he defends his thesis, we all will have yade working in multiple processor configurations.

The Authors page has been updated.

14 July 2006, beta release: "Just before big changes", yade version 0.10.0
This version is released just before making serious changes to the overall design. With this release regular users have a stable version to use, until the next version with significant changes will be released. Also Documentation, and general site update.

See Release NEWS for details.

11 July 2006
We are writing a paper about yade to scientific journal Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering. When finished it will serve as a base for thorough yade documentation.

9 October 2005
Yade was presented on conference ALERT in Aussois, France, 9 Oct 2005

21 August 2005, beta release: "Finally we've got something", yade version 0.9.0
This is an initial yade release, after nearly a year of work we are ready to present the community with what we have done.
